sanding a slight bevel in the spacer tips is an easy way to get rid of that little gap.
when you test fit the piece..you will see a little crack open up...draw a straight line down...and file it...that is how you can get rid of the space.
i suppose you could try preglueing the spacer rings halfs together as well....and then bending it. i would be curious if the glue is strong enough to keep the edges together. let us know how it works out.
