Re: West River vs. Artic

I drive a Saab wagon, and I'm not sure I could match the speed of an M3, but I'm following the analogy.

Lee, in the first paragraph above you say

"and if you don't mind less initial stability, the fast boat will achieve cruise speed at 40% effort while your paddling buddy is working at 55% in his slower boat"

Are you equating the less stable, slightly faster boat to the West River 18?

I haven't given you much of my background so that I can just see what your own feelings about the boats are. I am 5'10", and weigh 180lbs. and I first learned to paddle years ago in whitewater. The feeling of control gained with a subtle lean or weight shift is something I love. On the other hand I've been entering a 9mi. race here in Boston and the tracking of the CH 17lt has been great, even with the twists on the river. As for ocean use, it's ocassional day trips during the summer and the an overnight 1-2 times a year.

Thanks, Josh
