Brett,
Are you building from plans? If so, you'll have lots of little pieces of 4mm ply to cut 3' x 3" squares. Drill one to the diameter of the bolt's shank, the other to the diameter of the bolt's head. Screw bolt into first piece, epoxy piece 2 to back of piece 1. You now have the equivalent of CLC's studs.
Due to the 9 square inch surfaces, I think they are very strong.
