Greg,

Scarfing itself isn't that difficult - it's just that for the first time builder, this is their 1st experience with epoxy.

Here's what I did in preparation. I ordered CLC's Zen of Kayak Building (I still watch it the odd time). Then I ordered System 3's Epoxy Trial Kit -a bunch of fun and you get a lot of experience before you tackle your boat.

The tape will show you the techniques from A to Z and the kit will let you play with epoxy, thickeners, Fiberglass cloth etc. (I built a couple of simple paddles with it).

Believe me, as I finish kayak #2, it isn't as hard as you may think - just takes confidence and this forum backing you up all the way.
