I agree with most of what is said by the others. My 2 cents is trimming and just letting the natural streach of the neck gasket to do its job depends on your neck size. I have a 16 inch neck. I need to trim. I streach the neck gasket over a small can for several weeks before trimming. Use a sharp box cutter or knife to trim. It leaves a less jagged edge. IMHO YMMV

Note1: The neck gasket is not going to be comfortable if it can hold a seal.

Note2: nobody is going to take a return once you trim.
