reglassing

I had some heat damage to my kayak due to a fire which caused separation of the fabric from the wood but seems not to have damaged the wood itself. At any rate, it looks like I need to remove my the fiberglass, at least on one side of the boat. Is there a chemical way to do that or does it have to be sanded down?
