Re: sand paper grit

In prep for fiberglassing, I don't go higher than 320. If you squeegee and scrape the epoxy coats, you may not need to sand at all. If you do, let it cure really hard and go at it again with 320. Between coats of varnish, again scrape the drips and sags and only wet sand every second coat with 320 (no ROS), or use Scotch Brite pads.

Is your ROS a variable speed? A slightly used 220 at 3/4 max speed sort of resembles 320. Just keep her flat and keep her movin'!

Now stand back - you're gonna get a ton of replies to this question.

Try a few things and whatever works for you will be best.

Enjoy. Now you have a ROS, so you gotta build another boat. Then you can start with 80 grit on the raw wood.
