I squeegee the cloth wet out. And roll and tip with a foam brush. Gotta tip before the epoxy kicks, the brush sheds foam bits once it starts to drag. Some guys fill with a squeegee, some with a roller and foam brush and some with just a bristle brush. Whatever works for you.

I apply all but the last fill coat in one day using fast hardener. Some guys sand between each coat but it adds too much cure time waiting for each coat to harden. A final fill coat has to be added after sanding to fill the pocks crated by sanding away half an embedded bubble.
