An afterthought .....

Your first picture would have shown up just fine if you hadn't included the original "http://" part of the address in the "Optional Image URL" box. CLC's forum adds its own "http://" so you wound up with "http://http://student.ccbcmd.edu/~dboire/100_1864.jpg", that's why it didn't show up.
