What I don't understand is why people aren't using pivoting footbraces on Yakima rails. The rails are solid and bullet proof although they may get sticky with sand if you need to adjust them. I've seen production versions of a pivoting footbrace based on the Feathercraft footbrace with a pivot in the middle. I made some with hinged toe plates attached to a yakima footbrace. Using a 1/8" hollow braid vectran line in a constrictor splice between the rudder wire eyelet and the top of the toe plate you can adjust the rudder exactly where you want it.
