I have not built from a kit, but from Ches 17 plans the bulkheads did not fit well at their intended locations. How much the touching corners of the panels at the chine are sanded has a lot to do with it.

The norm is to move the bulkhead the couple inches to match corner of the chines and adjust the cutout of the shear clamps. Just do not move the bulkhead behind the seat forward, trim it if you have to. The shear clamps will keep the curve of the shear fair. If you want to make the cockpit volune smaller tape or hot glue the front bulkhead in place and make a cardboard template of a new bulkhead at the desired location, install it and then toss the taped in bulkhead.
