Patrick,
There is a school of thought that it's actually better to have a continuous 1/8" gap for S&G boats instead of having the wood fit tightly together. It's supposed to allow a more even stress distribution rather than concentrating it all at the edges of the wood. It's also supposed to allow a better saturation of the plywood end grain resulting in better rot resistance.
So a few gaps won't hurt anything.
