For a clear coat use one of the two part synthetic varnish like products. I believe Interlux and System 3 both sell one. Most traditional real old fashioned varnishes are a bit amber. And get more amber with each coat. But that is what varnished wood is supposed to look like (imho).

Print through is made worse by heat. Already mentioned is the time factor of curing the epoxy much longer than most guys do. Sam Devlin says to wait at least a month and try to get some good old fashioned sunshine on the hull before final finishing. Even he gets some print through and he is considered the stitch and glue guru.
