Ken,
That 'print through' is typical of the epoxy/fiberglass that we are using and you didn't do anything wrong to achive that look. What happens is that the epoxy continues to shrink for quite some time after we think it is fully cured. The best way to avoid the 'print through' is to wait for a much longer time before you do the final epoxy sanding that you would do before application of varnish.
So using the boat for a while before you varnish may be wise. Speaking of wise, I certainly doubt our buddy Kurt has ever seen 'print through'.
