I built the tortured plywood Yare from "The Kayak Shop" with a standard CLC keyhole coaming. Yep, cramped, unstable, weathercocking kayak that is light and nice to look at. I got the seam right on the second try. I moved the seat back 2 1/2 inches by lengthening the cockpit and added a fixed skeg to eliminate the weathercocking. I paddled it for two years in protected waters before building a Ches 17. Now the Yare hangs in the garage. I would not want to be caught two miles off shore when the wind and swells pick up in a Yare.
