Copper sutures

I've read here and elsewhere opposing views on leaving the remnant of the copper wire stitch in the hull.

I'm at that stage on my Chesapeake 17' and would value any opinions on the relative merits of both options, and the preferred technique for preparing for their removal, should that be the case.
