build on shore docking

does anyone have any tips on building an on shore docking system. They are commercially available by a company called Roll n Go, and allow you to dock and pull your small boat on the shore without hitting bottom. I'd rather build the system myself and was wondering if there is any experience/plans for doing this out there. Thanks
