I was able to find the veneer that I wanted at a hardwood store called Rockler Woodworking. They have a catalog that has lots of veneer options. It sounds like others have given you some good suggestions so you shouldn't have any trouble. One thing that I noticed is that it's very easy to lose a chip or sliver of your design during and after you make your cuts. One way to cut down on that is to put a layer of varnish on the veneer before cutting to help hold it together. Your design looks very ambitious, but if I can do it anyone can.
