Do a search on the forum. There is lots of info on mounting the footbraces without drilling holes. The 4mm ply is too thin.

I used 3M Fineline tape to mask for my over the deck paint and round ends. Used a handy shot glass to mark the radius. Used a standard woodworking marking guage to mark the sides of the boat. I ran the paint just far enough to cover the nails.

Some guys leave the tape on and pull it at the end some guys (like me) pull the tape for every coat. It all works. Varnish the deck first then paint over it. Be sure you rough up the varnish that will get paint. A 3M pad works fine. Be sure to really rub the tape down so its well stuck so you don't get bleed through.
