I don't know if I would be doing big batches, my approach with the class would be to pair them up: one pumps/mixes, the other squeegee out.
I would then assign each pair a particular area of the craft to work on.
This way, small batches could be used, mixing relatively quickly, the spread of epoxy could somewhat be controlled, and everyone has some fun. For the second coat, they could then change jobs.
Hopefully at the end of the job, the mixers will still have clean gloves, to clean the squeegees
Not that I know anything about organising a bunch of 8th graders...
