Currently I'm using a cheap golf buggy (AU$30)to transport my kayaks short portages. I just put the stern where the base of the golf bag would sit, and use gaffa tape to hold it in place. I do plan to make proper mounts on the golf buggy and use bungie cord to hold it down, but the gaffa tape is doing such a easy job of it, at the moment.

The other advantage of the golf buggy is that they fold up and the wheel remove, to fit in the car.
