Most of my tools are Makita, which I like for the light weight and good durability. However, I have a Dewalt jig saw that I don't particularly like, as the blade-pitch knob keeps falling off as well as the little springloaded ballbearing behind it. It's also a bit heavy. I've also used Bosche and Milwaukee tool jig saws and they were both fine, but a bit heavier.

Some of the saws may take blades that are specific only to that saw, a problem for replacements as well as higher costs.

A jig saw is a great boatbuilding tool that I'm sure you'll use a lot.
