I'm guessing that this is an unexpected consequence of using one construction detail in the prior CLC kayaks (foreshortened sheerclamps) and applying it to another where the narrower sheer panels are under more tension using the forming bulkhead. The WR180 and Chesapeake don't require a forming bulkhead in the bow so the tension off the end of the sheer clamp isn't as great.
