I only installed a rear hatch, Greg. With the epoxy coating on the inner edges of the slots, and Marine Goop on the inside backing plates, I have had no problem with moisture. Also, when you epoxy the webbing to the backers, the epoxy tends to fill and wick up the straps. So you don't get any water heading the other direction.

As the photo shows, I used three on the rear hatch, and I simply eye-balled the locations.

I think they came out great.
