Lioyd If you are building a CLC kayak the deck is a cambered 2 piece deck not an 8 piece like the Pigmey, so there isn't a need to stain and epoxy all of the deck pieces prior to assembly. Assemble your deck remove any epoxy on the surface and at the joints, then stain with the water base stain of your choice. If you want to go through all of Teds sanding steps you can , but it is most likly overkill. I have that book also and the method Ted Moores uses works good for him but there is more than one way to do anything , do what works best for you. Happy Holidays Walt
