I made a fixed skeg by layering 6 oz glass, 3 mm ply, 6 oz glass, 3 mm ply and 6 oz glass. I cut it to match the rear keel line and glued it on with Cbosil thickened epoxy fillets. Then of course I did the trial and error carving it smaller to make the kayak wind neutral. No problems, it has held up to beach abuse. I also figured if I did not like it it would be easy to just cut off and sand the keel smooth.

The below picture was before trimming. Almost half of the skeg height was removed to acheive a wind neutral kayak.
