Re: planing shear clamps

I run my shear clamps all the way to the bow and stern. It does two things for me. One, eliminates most of the end pours. Two, allows me to round over the shear to smooth the transition between the deck and side. I plane the shear so about 1/8 inch of the shear clamp shows for most of the length of the kayak. I just don’t like the hard corner or rub rails for that matter.
The white stripe in the the plywood layers at the shear in this picture is the shear clamp.
