You can get a nice finish with a graphite/epoxy mixture by applying the finish in this layers using a brush or roller(via tipping off technique). Tipping off means to hold the roller with a finger so it doesn't "roll". You drag the roller across the surface so that it "wipes" the graphite/epoxy mixture on. In this way you get an even and thin layer. Do this 4-5 times and you end up with a very nice finish. It helps to sand off any obvious rough spots. I use a foam brush when applying the mixture to the hull.
