planing guide for double

Posted by Brett on Dec 16, 2004

Hi all, a couple of us ran into this problem but it slipped down the list quickly without a response - just bumping it back up for another try.

I have come to the point of installing the deckbeams on my CLC double. I have slip fitted the deck beams and was playing around with the planing guide. I notice that the two laminated deck beams have the correct 24" radius however my plywood deckbeam and the two plywood bulkheads have a slighly smaller radius. Both the ply bulkheads and the ply deckbeam were factory cut - did any body else have to do some reshaping to get them right?

It was suggested that this is normal because the deck should flow from almost flat at the ends to the 24" radius in the middle. However the double does not have a rolling bevel for the mounting like the singles - apparently we just have the one planning guide and the one mountain angle for the deck the entire length of the kayak.

Thanks Brett
