It takes a lot of finger strength to close those fastek buckles if the goal is to compress the hatch gasket for a good seal. Even harder in cold weather with frozen fingers. You might consider a flip cam lever made out of wood/glass with a fastek buckler or line providing a safety. If the webbing anchors are located in the deck closer to the hatch and not the sheerclamps you'll get more down force for a given buckle effort. That's what I'd consider first.
