I have 2 of the PC's at home and 2 in my woodshop at the high school I teach at. They are variable speed and the newer ones have a dust collection attachment. Get a good quality paper from an industrial supply store not from Sears etc!!!! For most work, 80 and 120g will do just fine. I have not used the hook and loop so can't comment on that system. The self stick that come with a plastic "barrier" on each disk seem to stick better than the ones I buy that are on a continous roll.
