Jim, a common complaint. I used a scraper to get rid of the raised area at the selvedge (edge) of the tape. Carbide scrapers, not the putty knife type, are said to be best. Mine is not carbide but I do resharpen the blade with a file as needed. Yes, cutting tape diagonally from a sheet of fiber glass is one way to eliminate the ridge and get more fibers across the join. Is it worth the extra effort? Not to me, others may point out the advantages tho'. The kayak looks good so far, Enjoy the build. RogerJ
