BS1088 has nothing to do with okoume. It is a standard that applies to marine plywood in general. As long as the specific wood meets the standard's requirements for physical properties, it can be used anywhere in BS1088 standard plywood, inside or out. So conceivably you could have a multi-wood sandwich for your plywood. BS1088 does not rule this out. I'm not sure if any manufacturer does this.

As far as a lighter core, okoume is about the lightest wood suitable for marine plywood. There'd be no point in using some other wood for a lighter core.
