It does not melt the PVC. Epoxy resin and hardener contain no solvents (unlike polyester resins and catalyst).

It doesn't bond all that well, in my opinion, but well enough for low stress applications. best if the installation involves wrapping the pipe with glass, then bonding the glass to something else.

You can improve the bond by sanding the PVC with 60 grit sandpaper. The rougher the surface the better.

And just in case you're thinking of this for a mast, PVC pipe is a terrible core for masts. It's far too heavy and not stiff enough.
