Fiberglass Tape

I just finished the fillet/tape operation on my first kayak, a CH16. Everything went fine until I was finishing the application of unthickened epoxy to the tape. Apparently, the epoxy was thickening in the cup, and as I brushed it into the tape it did not fully wet the tape. There are several small areas that I need to adress. I plan to sand the areas to remove the epoxy and then reapply unthickened epoxy. Is there a different approach that I should consider? Thanks
