Think INSIDE rigging, too

'Ditto on finding parallel shock cords more useful than crossing cords. My preference is for some cords in front of the cockpit to hold a map, behind the cockpit to hold blades of a spare paddle, and a small pair towards the stern for the spare paddle shaft.
Best to keep the gear INSIDE the kayak (show off that nice deck!). Underdeck and cockpit side shock cords are great for holding pumps, paddle floats, sponges, etc.
