Mac,

I say go for it, SOF are a lot easier and quicker to build than a S&G. You make them to fit your body so no matter what size you are you can get it to fit. I built mine with instructions from Chris Cunningham's Building a Greenland kayak book. My boat isn't to hard to get in and out of so a youngster such as yourself shouldn't have any problems. The stability is something I'm still getting used to but I think it is coming to me.
