Doug fir may also check even if it has been glassed. Also over time the grain of the fir will telegraph through the glass, no matter how well it has been prepared. Pick up a copy of Devlin's book for a description of the repairs on two 5 year old boats, one in Okoume and one Doug Fir. The fir one was more expensive to repair due to the factors mentioned above.
