I did some research on this issue last year in planning to build a small tug. You may take a look at the Devlinboat.com site. Look under the "Dipper" and you'll see a link to Cliff Ruffin, a Dipper builder. I believe Cliff is building this 16.5 foot pocket cruiser out of exterior plywood. He did quite a bit of research on it and decided that, since weight was not a big issue and cost was, and sicne he was heavily glassing the entire boat, the exterior ply was the better choice.
