Jeff, I live in Niagara and have paddled several times along the north shore of Lake Erie from Buffalo to the Grand River. Typically the summer mornings start out with warm flat water but by noon the westerly winds are heightened to create waves for our return trips. Because the lake is shallow the waves quickly build up. I have'nt paddled in waves larger than about 18 inches but find that my CH17LT is better than my CH16 especially with rear quartering wind and waves. I feel very confident in the boats and find that they are as good as my friends'17 feet plastic crafts. In fact, mine is faster when going to windward. They also surf waves nicely.
