Re: CH18 Mods?

I was looking at changing the deck radius on my NorthBay and if I remember correctly every two inches of change in the radius is about 3/8 inch change in deck height. So for an 8 inch change you're looking at something on the order of 3 inches lost in centerline clearance.
I would say, if you can accomodate the volume change, go for it. The CH18 is a huge boat and could accomodate a little loss. I personally just stuck the deck beam in temporarily with screws from the inside and then removed it and filled the screw holes with epoxy. That will give you a little more wiggle room if you do decide to make the change. Just remember to glass the underside of the deck for about 2 feet forward of the cockpit and you should be okay without the deck beam. (I used 2 layers of 4 oz glass for this.)

Growing old is inevitible, growing up is optional. Live well, play hard. (And make mods to your boat as you see fit.)
