really old epoxy
Posted by Kathrine on Oct 9, 2004
I bought my Ch17 kit two years ago and am just now getting started. According to the directions on the epoxy, the resin does not go bad, but the catalyst has a six month shelf life. I've never worked with epoxy before, so I mixed the two just to see what would happen. The mixture seemed to harden like it should, although it did take about 36-48 hours to set up hard enough to sand it, and it didn't generate very much heat in the cup like I've read about. I glued two pieces of scrap wood together and the joint is plenty strong. So what's the deal with the 6 month shelf life? Will this two year old epoxy work for my kayak project or not?
