When I was looking at getting a new paddle, I nknew what length I wanted but not style/brand. I went to a local kayak store and "barrowed" a few to try. They actually had more styles than just the normal kayak "rental paddle". And if the owners know you, you may get even more choices. Go to a store and see if they will rent you an assortment of paddles of different lengths for a weekend. I am sure they would, especially if they think a sale may result.
