Re your question about MC 16.5 stability, not to worry! I too am 65, and have paddled my MC in Lake Erie (in fairly calm conditions) with no worrie about tipping. With its low CG, it's much more stable than a canoe. It seems a little tippy initially, but once it rolls a bit, stability increases due to hull form.
