Jim:

Never heard of the second method. I doubt if it would work well, as the tacky epoxy could make the varnish/paint brush drag, thus inmpeding the tipping off needed to get a good, smooth finish, and the epoxy would have the usual drips, runs and dust bunnies.

Anyone ever try this?
