They didn't used to be part of the kit or design. Wonder if there was a change. On the original design the only thing joining the transom to the side panels is an unglassed fillet. Which seemed to expect a lot from the surface strength of the veneer and not the strength of the entire thickness of the wood. Especially if the hull is slid stern end onto the ground or a pram with two adults bumps up stern corner into a piling.
