I can think of at least one good reason for glasssing the coaming before installing it:
"I was worried too when dry-fitting the coaming on my LT17; the plywood started to 'talk' and I felt it was very close to breaking. I found a nice, simple solution though, before doing the actual glue-up: I glassed the coaming the day before gluing it to the spacers and applying clamp pressure. The glassed coaming seemed very, very strong and I felt quite certain it would not break - and it didn't."
Others have reported coamings that broke when they were clamped down. -- Niels
