Re: The Great Race

Great race Mac. I never had one I didnt like. The last one I had around a month ago, was against 3 canoe pro boats (C2) with a mixed crew M/F. I had the only kayak. Needless to say I won my category, but also took the overall first place after a very, very close race over a 11 km distance. I also notice that still a lot of beginner kayakers only use the arms to propel them. Usually I try to tell them as nicely as I can off the advantages of using upper body rotation. Now after I moved up from my plastic sea kayak into my homebuilt one with solid foot braces, (no rudder) Im using my legs as well (pumping) and I find even more rotation. Last night and for the first time, I managed with that stroke to cover 14.4 km (GPS) in 1:26:33, against a lazy current and then back. That came close to 6.2 MPH and I couldnt be happier. So everyone, use upper body rotation for speed and distance.
