Bow/Stern 3" tape?

CH17 - read its optional to put 3" tape on bow and stern to help with abraision damage. Hull has 3 coats on already. I have my tape ready to put on but an wondering how far back to go from where the curve is on each end (end to bottom curve). How far to cover on the hull bottom. I am thinking a bit over a foot. What do you think?
