Thomas, it sounds like you are into some wild conditions. Alas, for my last three days on Superior the lake was pretty quiet, with just an underlying swell to remind you you were on a big lake. I had one session with a bit of surf, and tried out Lee's suggestion about laying on your side to straighten out the boat, worked great.

I'm on Lake Erie now, and hopefully I'll get a couple of days of big waves in that nice, warm (albiet murky) water.

As far as wildlife, we were travelling with a couple of very small children and were car camping. Still, we saw a couple of bears and one moose. If any of you ever get a chance to visit the North Shore of Lake Superior, it's an incredible place to kayak/camp/hike whatever.
